Dec 16 - The Season's Must Have Sportswear

These young models are in Gaza for a photo-shoot for the new line of Palestinian fatigues that all the boys want. That's the director in the background, scurrying out of the way so the photographer can get the macho shot that will have these babies flying off the shelves.

OK, making light of a grave situation...sorry. But the recent fighting in the region between Hamas and Fatah is a rare break from the usual fighting with Israel. You guys need to decide who your enemy is. You're looking pretty silly about now.

K and I went ahead and made a business expense in the form of a new Nikon D50. It's pretty intense and finally allows me the control of manual focus, something I've hated about digital cameras forever. The shot at right is of the canal which runs behind the offices of RFB. Looks like something from Jurassic Park. I suppose I'll have to get good at this thing and maybe start a Flickr account. Then again, probably not.

Gonna go play with it now. wealth? Never. Redistribution of priorities.

Dec 7 - Hey Barack, You Listening?

I've got East St. Louis, Illinois on the brain, thanks to the author Robert Kaplan, who describes this bleak, Third World enclave in his book An Empire Wilderness. 99% black by the 1990s, the city sits just across the river from the revitalized and booming St. Louis. Beyond depressed, East St. Louis could better be described as hopeless.

So I had to contact a certain Senator from that state and let him in on a plan hatching here at RFB that just might help him get elected President, should he choose to run. You need more than charm, nice clothes and a way with words. Time for some action.

There are churches like this unnamed one at right all over this country, whose people come and listen and watch and give money and then leave happy. It's a great big show. It's a theatre. Their youth groups will "adopt" poorer churches down here in Florida so that they can come and paint some walls in conjunction with a trip to Disney. Guess what? That's not Christianity. That's a trip to Disney.

There is no excuse in this wealthy nation for conditions that exist in places like East St. Louis. Redistribution of wealth? Never. Redistribution of priorities.
