Time's
New Romans
From
the album Time's New Romans
I’ve
been in your backyard while you’re away
I saw the robot cleaning the pool
under the fountain crystal cool
and no one's home to enjoy it during the day
I
saw your half-eaten bagel sitting out on the table
You left your coffee with some cream
as you raced out in a dream
Or maybe you woke up and found it’s a fable
I
saw the servants leaving gates open wide
Landscaper trims around the pool screen
He ripped it a little but it won’t be seen
because when you get home you're never going outside
And
nobody's home in the perfect locations
We’re too busy slaving and saving for vacations
Time’s new Romans grab a bite on the run
Drop off the kids and get ‘em when we’re done
And who says you don’t pay to roam
This is your heart if this is what you call home
Half
a million dollars for some box in Heathrow
Your street's a set from the Twilight Zone
You’re keeping up with some other Jones
And at the end of the day what have you to show
The
landscapers keep St. Augustine off the walk
They love the peace of your empty yard
Your easy life - it seem so hard
You snub them as you leave while it’s you they mock
And
nobody's home in the perfect locations
They're too busy slaving and saving for vacations
Time’s new Romans grab a bite on the run
Drop off the kids and get ‘em when we’re done
And who says you don’t pay to roam
This is your heart if this is what you call home
