Take a Drink

From the album Telegraph Canyon

Blue clear rain down a gutter washed sun splash
Drink from the well of the sandbar’s castaways
Can’t see a reason for the chain in the sky today
All else is narrow and the butterflies cry for joy

Take a drink – take a drink – take a drink
Blow the dust out the cup and let the water slide up your arm
Submerged it gurgled and laughed
Take a bow – Take leave – Take note
Take a drink

Green blades lit with clear lamps on a rolling knoll
Across the street a conspiracy of three
Find me a reason for the season of being free
Dance clap and make a little more noise

Come home with me and dance until dawn lying down
Wear the sliding stuff that covered the bed
Sink deep low for a while rest your head
Dream a red something and grin in your sleep

Take a drink – let me drink – take some time
Blow the dust off the book and read it to me
Submerged, swirled, bound and on fire
Take care – Take heed – Take note
Take a drink

Wet water weekend went the way of the whales
South or somewhere farther from here than there
Say that again only this time softer than you dare
Lip-reading landscaper will tend to it all

Let me drink – let me touch – let me breath you in
Blow on your neck softer than the breeze
Submerged and still and yet still swirling
Take a picture – Take a letter – Take a day
Take a drink
