THIS
PAGE IS FOR PUBLISHING HOUSE REPRESENTATIVES
AND LITERARY AGENTS ONLY.
Update:
07/02/07: Sent out a random note to some blog world friends. We'll now see if this social media thing is all that it's cracked up to be. If you got here from there, cool. Welcome. Have a look around. You'll find plenty of ways on this site to get in touch if you are at all interested. You can also try jetpacks (AT) gmail (DOT) com.
Update:
04/15/07: Nothing has happened at all. No book updates. No queries sent. Nothing. Haven't even opened the book and looked at it. Thought about it once or twice, but for now, it's a back-of-mind, backburner thing.
Publishers and literary agents are welcome to poke around here, but we're done hardselling for the time being.
Update:
04/28/06: Well, just as we thought: "We've reviewed your
manuscript and unfortunately we have decided that we are not the right
publisher for Geometry.
We
admire your ambition-you tackle many social issues in your fiction-but
we don't feel that we would be able to find a broad enough readership
for this novel. Unfortunately these days our fiction list is quite crowded,
so we have to limit our acquisitions in this area."
And so it goes. We'll keep knocking.
Update: 04/17/06: Anne
Rice gave us the name of an editor at a very large New York publishing
house. Said publisher requested the first 50 pages of Geometry
and is now reading them, stating, "As you can imagine, a recommendation
from Anne Rice carries a lot of weight around here." They say we
can expect a response by the end of next week. Eggs not yet being chickens,
we're trying not to count anything, but it is rather nice to have avoided
the whole literary agent route this time around. And this will be a very
long two weeks.
Update:
03/06/06: We got scammed by the infamous "New York Literary
Agency," who express interest in pretty much EVERYTHING that comes
their way, only to stab you later with "editing fees" from an
"outside editor," which is really their own editing company.
Nothing was signed and no money exchanged hands, but it was rather annoying
to get our hopes up by these fraudulent scammers.
Also sent a few more queries and the rejections are piling up. A sample:
"Not right for me but best of luck to you." That about sums
up the tone of them all. "Keep knocking. It's a subjective business
and you never know. We hated it, but others might not."
Update 05/20/05: We have never attempted to sell this book to
any publisher, and we only recently sent out about 30 letters (via email)
in an attempt to get Mr. Wilkie representation by a literary agency. (We
chose numerous American agencies, a handful of English agencies, one German
agency, one Australian agency and one Swiss agency.) We hope one of them
responds soon. We expect multiple rejection letters, but we only need
one saying,"let's work together."
