Some
farsighted visionaries imagined not long ago that someday e-books were
going to replace real books. We have to laugh. The thought of “curling
up on the couch with a good handheld e-book reader” just doesn’t
cut it. So you’re on the beach with a great e-novel and you get
to a good part and suddenly your “Low Battery” indicator goes
on? Maybe it will turn into a nice toy for some Sharper Image-type catalogs,
but e-books are not going to take off anytime soon.
At
RadioFreeBabylon
we love technology, but we also have great respect for the old-fashioned
media. The printed word is here to stay. It requires no power source and
goes with you anywhere. You can read it by firelight and set it down without
turning it off. The only accessory you might need is a bookmark, and even
that is not required. Just dog-ear the corner.

Our
Publications Division is hard at work on some very interesting tales.
Our first novel is Geometry, which
we expect will be required reading in American high schools in about 90
years. We also expect someone to attempt to turn it into a screenplay,
maybe us. In the event that this happens, we will insist on casting Christopher
Walken in a supporting role.
We’re
also working on other stories, screenplays, and concepts. These are hidden
in a secret place so that no one can steal our intellectual property.
When the time comes, you’ll read about them here.
(Please
do not confuse our organization with the independent film project that
goes by the name "Radio Free Babylon™." We are in no way associated
with that low-budget and heretofore unfinished movie. This name was registered
to us in 2000 and incorporated in Missouri that same year. If the film
project known as "Radio Free Babylon™" ever gets released, we
will sue its creators and distributors for defamation. If there was a
movie released called "Xerox," don't you think the Xerox corporation
would have something to say about that? We rest our case.)
