Radio
Free Babylon™ Redesigns Website Yet Again
(FLORIDA,
USA.) Radio Free Babylon™ has once again decided that its online
presence was in need of another overhaul and has announced the release
of RFB Version VII, described by industry analysts as, "Coming
along."
RFB's Head
of Creative Services, Davis Summerfield, said "In order to leverage
targeted traffic with respect to usability, we needed to maximize existing
content. It was time to ramp up our efforts in this area and deliver
on some key actionable items."
"What Mr. Summerfield is saying," said Kimberly Wilson, spokesperson
for RFB, "is that the old website kinda sucked and it needed to
be brought up to date."
"That's
not what I'm saying at all," said Summerfield, "Eye-tracking
studies commissioned by RFB revealed a disconnect with the audience
in certain key areas of functionality. We believe we've addressed those
concerns with this new design."
"What
Mr. Summerfield is saying is that he asked some friends to look at the
site and they told him it sucked," said Wilson.
With a
new midnight-blue to black gradient background stolen from another website,
the depth of the new RFB site is enhanced. The Creative Department also
added a cheesy shine to the navigation bar and changed its color from
a really gay powder blue to a more masculine purplish color.
But the most drastic change for RFB's website comes on the homepage.
Said Wilson, "In past incarnations of the site, no one knew what
we did when they arrived at the homepage. After much begging, cajoling
and finally threatening, Mr. Summerfield's staff gave way and actually
put some real content on the homepage. It used to consist of stupid
icons that when you rolled over them, another image on the page would
change. Very, very lame, and a definite drawback to visitor retention."
"What
Ms. Wilson is saying," said Summerfield, "is that she wouldn't
know a work of art if DaVinci himself presented her with the statue
of David."
"Mr.
Summerfield means 'Michelangelo,'" said Wilson, "and if that
old homepage was supposed to be art, then I'll show you a beautiful
modern art sculpture my dog just left in the backyard."
Some within RFB are still clamoring for more change, hoping to bring
the website up to what they call, "at least 1999." There has
been talk of removing all of the powder-blue highlights that still pepper
the site.
"There
will always be factions, disenfranchised elements, consisting usually
of wannabe artists, who will never be happy with anything," said
Summerfield, "As head of Creative Services here at RFB, I take
great pride in the projects my staff is able to deliver on a limited
budget and with limited manpower. As for the powder-blue thing, I'm
not that big on it either, but changing it will be a major pain. I'm
just not ready for that kind of commitment."
