NationalNews

Where are you getting your national news? CNN? Oh, come on! And chances are pretty good that your hometown paper is leaning one way or another, too. Get the straight news from a very patriotic and yet pretty objective source.

We said pretty objective. That doesn't mean they don't accidentally omit all kinds of stuff that's going on in the world. No sense in upsetting the readership, right?

With a long and colorful history dating back to World War I, the Stars and Stripes is the hometown newspaper for millions of American troops, Defense and State Department personnel abroad. The newspaper publishes approximately 80,000 copies in the Pacific and Europe combined, 363 days per year.

Unlike its stateside counterparts, “Stripes” takes no editorial position of its own, but strives to maintain a balanced presentation of issues and opinions that shape the news. Their “letters to the editor page” has always been a popular feature.

Stars and Stripes has one of the widest distribution ranges of any newspaper in the world. Between the Pacific and European editions, they service over 50 countries where there are bases, posts, service members, ships, or embassies. Today, Stripes' European and Pacific daily editions are produced in Washington, D.C., and sent by satellite and internet to print sites in Germany, Italy, Great Britain, Japan, Okinawa and South Korea.
