Dear
Gramma K:
I
am a 19 year old college student studying at a
very prestigious and respected university (My Dad's
alma mater.) This school is affiliated with a religious
denomination that I do not see eye to eye with
at all. I am feeling really trapped here under
their totalitarian control of student life. It's
like they've taken all the joy out of serving God.
I expect smiling will be banned here next.
I
know this school is costing my Dad big bucks and
I know he wants me to go here. I hate it. I am
a prisoner. How do I tell my Dad without upsetting
him? And how come some people who say they love
and serve God are so sour, bitter, and lacking
life?
Sincerely,
MM
Dear
MM:
Why are you in school? Ask yourself honestly if this university is meeting
those needs. If it is, and you can tolerate the rest of the situation, focus
on the big picture of getting your education.
If you are not getting the education you need, focus on that. Find the university
where you will, find the money to pay for it, do all homework and get all the
facts. Then go to your dad and let him know you are changing schools and why.
It will be up to him at that point to accept your decision, not up to you to
convince him.
As to why some people are bitter and lacking life, I can't speak for them but
I suspect they have lost sight of the big picture.
Be well,
Gramma K
Dear
Gramma K:
I
am a high ranking official in a certain superpower's
government. I did not want this job, but everyone
respects me and I kind of got forced into it.
I
thought I could make a difference and become a
voice of reason in a regime that I didn't necessarily
have a lot in common with.
Now
I find that rather than making a difference, I
have become like one of them. I now stretch facts,
tell half-truths, and pretty much have lost my
love for this sort of work.
What
is your advice, Gramma K?
